A historical ramble in South Yorkshire. In 1660, The Quaker laeder George Fox addressed a large gathering in the village of Balby near Doncaster, standing on a 'great stool'. In 1669 Fox preached again in Balby, sheltered by a walnut tree which survived until 1928 and whose wood was then made into furniture. An old chair belonging to Sheffield Central Quaker Meeting is entitled to its nickname 'George Fox's Chair'. True or false? - enquire within
